I was here, I saw this and it mattered to me
While we are travelling around the world, to discover what each of us can do about the ecological crisis, we take time to walk along rivers, climb mountains and explore forests. There’s such delight in being in nature and while Jan Henk is gathering expertise, I am soaking up beauty. For a while I made random collections of beautiful natural materials I found and then on a walk in Ntchisi Forest I came up with a concept and turned it into an art project: I was here, I saw this and it mattered to me.
This art project consists of a series of collections I make when I walk through nature. The colour of each collection is determined by the first piece of trash that I find on my way. I then complete the collection with natural material and other matter out of place in the same colour. So every collection tells a story of the place where it is made, about the vegetation, the kind of waste that is left behind and the colour of the landscape.
This project is about making something beautiful while also expressing my concern about non-biodegradable waste. Each picture is a link to a larger image and a story about the place where it is made.
