Urban Farming Workshops in Amsterdam

Our pilgrimage for sustainability continues at home. Last saturday I went to an Urban Farming workshop at De Ceuvel, a local hub for creative enterprises and sustainable initiatives.

I attended a workshop by Cityplot, about composting with worms in the city and made my own wormfarm to take home.

(The bucket I’m using is recycled. Cityplot picked it up at a candy factory.)

I hope to be able to combine the composting with worms with aquaponics one day, feeding the plants with super-nitricious worm-tea. so I was happy to be able to attend the opening of the aquaponics farm build by Nomad Farmers, to start learning about that too.

Still a long way to go before I’ll be able to produce my first lettuce on homemade worm-tea, but definitely a first step.

I intend to regularly update on my progress. First challenge is to keep the worms alive and happy...

For now the worms live on a flat roof just outside my window

We set out on a pilgrimage of hope, our goal is to discover what each of us can do about the ecological crisis. We visit places, people and projects all over the world to personally hear the cry of the earth and her inhabitants and to see and experience what people are doing to bring about change. Here we share what we find.
